Carnival of Mathematics

Mark at Good Math, Bad Math came up with the most creative theme I’ve seen for a blog carnival yet, with his Carnival of Math: The Spam Edition. Apparently most of us have been too busy to send anything in. Even though it’s a small carnival, there are several good articles to visit. Enjoy!

Carnival of Mathematics

Carnival of Math #18 was posted Saturday evening at JD2718. Jonathan has put together a tremendous list of 52 blog posts, with these instructions:

1) Scroll, 2) Click, 3) Enjoy, 4) Repeat.

It is too much to take in on a sleepy Sunday afternoon, but I know I have some great math reading to look forward to this week.

Edited to add: There is an addendum post, too. Enjoy!

Carnival of Mathematics

Dave at MathNotations was up early today posting the 17th Edition of the Carnival of Mathematics. 17 is sometimes called the most “random” number, although one (not very scientific) test has shown 3 to be even more “random.” Did you know there are only 17 ways you can design wallpaper? The 17 Wallpaper Tilings has animations of each pattern.

Bloglines potluck “carnival”

September 4, 2007 · 1 Comment

Blog carnival graphic 2One last, long weekend before we dive full-speed into school and co-op classes and swim lessons and karate and art lessons and…well, this may be my last chance to catch up on the backlog in my Bloglines folders. With over 100 feeds, there is no way I will keep up with all of you during the school year. So here is my end-of-summer fling, a sort of unofficial “Best of (my) Bloglines” carnival, in which I share my personal favorites from the last few weeks of RSS.

I hope you enjoy these posts as much as I have.

Carnival of Mathematics XV

August 25, 2007 · 1 Comment

Carnival of MathematicsAaargh—I missed it again! I suppose I should know better by now, but I sent in my entries (on time at least) via the blog carnival submission form. I have lost more carnival entries that way, but I still let myself be lured in by the ease of using a form, rather than writing a simple email by hand. Silly, lazy me.

Anyway, the latest Carnival of Mathematics is now open at a mispelt bog, with plenty of fun graphics and interesting things to read about.

Missed it by that much

August 9, 2007 · No Comments

Carnival of MathematicsProcrastinating blogger that I am, I missed two out of my three favorite blog carnivals this week. The Carnival of Mathematics XIV went up a full two days early at Vlorbik on Math Ed, featuring several interesting math articles for your browsing pleasure.

The 131st Carnival of Education posted one day early at Education in Texas, with plenty of summer reading for those among us who take a break in the hot and humid doggie days. And I actually did make it in to the extensive Carnival of Homeschooling #84, hosted by the Nerd Family.

Edited to add: It looks like I am not the only one who missed the carnivals this week. Vlorbik has published Missing Links for the math carnival, and Mike in Texas has posted Carnival Addenda—The Lost Children Addition.

Carnival of Mathematics #10

June 15, 2007 · No Comments

Carnival of MathematicsTo the Pythagorean mystics, 10 was the Sacred Tetractys, the number of the Universe, “the source and root of eternal nature.” 10 is the fourth triangular number [pdf, 32KB], the sum of the first 4 positive integers:

1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10

The Carnival of Math: Tenth Edition is up at MathNotations, with most of the posts at the middle-to-secondary school level this time. There are too many interesting topics for me to play favorites. Be sure to check it out!
